The Carpet Calculator provides you with an estimate of how much
carpet you will need and the approximate cost of the carpeting.
Due to room size, carpet widths and/or patterns, the actual amount of
carpet that your room(s) will require will need to be determined by
our Carpet Shack team.
Standard widths of carpet are 12', and 15'. At least 90% of the
available carpet is 12 ft. wide. Remember, for rooms where the length
and/or the width is wider than 12 ft. seams will be required. Always
estimate your carpet requirements based upon the longest and widest
part of the room (including closets) and to the middle point of doorways
(directly under the door). To allow for cutting waste, add at least 3" to
both the width and the length.
Finally, if the carpet has a pattern, you will need to measure the length of
the pattern from its start to its finish. In order to match the pattern, you
will need to add the full length of the pattern measurement to the length you
measured in the direction the pattern runs. For example, if your room is a
10' x 10', you would enter your width as 12. If the pattern runs along the length,
and the pattern length is 2 ft., then enter the length as 12 (10' + 2') which
equals 144 sq. ft. To get the number of square yards, divide the sq. ft. by 9.
To use the calculator:
Enter the room dimensions in feet.
Now enter the price of the carpet in dollars per square yard.
